Talks and Master classes

Lets secure that place on the dream course – with advice and guidance on how to make a great application and ensure your students are on the road to success!

From study skills, to personal statement writing we have a lot to offer year 12 and 13 students just starting their UCAS journey. As with all our activities, we can adapt to suit your needs, so please to do ask and we will see what we can do.

On offer all year round:

‘UCAS Application Process’ presentation
Starting with an outline of the stages of the UCAS application process, including the various deadlines involved, the presentation talks through the different kinds of offers and jargon used, what to do (and not to do) when filling in the UCAS form and how to start the personal statement.
* A parents evening version can  also be offered

‘Personal Statements’ session
The dreaded part of the UCAS form, the personal statement. Advising students how to construct their statement and informing them of what admission tutors look for. We can stay behind to offer more one-to-one help if requested.

‘Interview Preparation’ session
Whatever course the interview may be, we run through the practicalities of preparing for interview along with preparing for questions, tasks and portfolios.

‘Study Skills’ session
Taking a look learning styles, time management and the increased workload from GCSE to A’levels, to university level and how to cope.

Annual events:

Access to HE evening
As part of the Open Day on Saturday 21st November 2015, we are holding a focused session for mature students, offering specific support with the university application process. The session will cover information about the UCAS process, what to look for when choosing university courses and personal statements. The staff running the session will also be there to answer any other questions students may have.

Personal Statement Master classes
These are available on set days in September and October; dates are TBC. With a Master class, students partake in an interactive workshop on writing personal statements and receive one-to-one help and guidance on their draft statement. They also have the chance to carry on writing their statements in one our university computer rooms.

HE Prep days
During the summer term, we can offer your year 12 and equivalent students to come to one of our campuses and receive a day of workshops and presentations to gear them up for their UCAS journey.
