After a busy four weeks for the Outreach Team, we finally have time to tell you about our Live and Learn residential!
First up, we invited 50 year 12 students to spend 4 days at our University, tasting one of Media, Business or Art & Design subject streams. This was entwined with lots of general university sessions and social activities.
Sunday was welcome day, everybody introducing themselves and getting involved in icebreakers and entering into the university quiz in the SU Bar. The lecture theatre was transformed into a cinema for the evening, showcasing the famous Anchorman comedy.
Monday, just like every day, began with a juicy fry up in the refectory before heading off to the subject specific sessions.
Our subject streams covered many different areas over the few days with the media stream covering TV Production, Film Studies and Animation, testing the student’s ability to the max by making audio clips and animation sequences. Business students got to experience Accounting, Marketing and Applied Business sessions with our current academic tutors whilst Art and Design students created their own work in the Printing and Illustration classes!
Monday night was university night, where the Outreach Team delivered informal advice sessions for everybody, covering finance and budgeting to choosing courses before settling down after a busy day!
Tuesday was a new day, and after breakfast we headed back to our classes for more subject lessons before getting ready for Bowling in Stroud. We took over Stroud Bowl for the evening, hitting the lanes, storming the pool tables and breaking records on the arcade games.
Wednesday was the fourth and final day of the Year 12’s stay. We packed up all of our things and went into our final university session. Applying to university takes a lot of effort and patience with lots of work going into the personal statement. Naomi and Fiona were on hand to help before finishing the Year 12 residential with a bit of a round up in the lecture theatre for one last time!
The Outreach Team would like to thank everybody who attended the Year 12 Residential, it was an amazing four days and you guys were brilliant!
